Portrait Photography in Mandeville, LA

I’m Paige Henderson, a portrait photographer in Mandeville. I create studio portraits for people from Mandeville, Covington, Madisonville and Abita Springs who want more than a quick photo. They want a portrait that looks like them and is worth keeping.

For me, photography has never been about the camera. It has always been about the person. You do not need to know how to pose, and you do not need to be photogenic. I guide the whole session, from our first conversation to your final portraits.

Why I Photograph People

Photography became my excuse to get to know remarkable people. I picked up a camera in high school, on the yearbook staff, because I wanted the pictures to belong to the stories they went with and not just fill space on a page.

That has not changed. Before I think about lighting or wardrobe, I want to know who you are and what matters to you at this point in your life. A portrait made that way looks different from one made in a hurry. People can tell. I wrote more about this in why I photograph people.

The Signature Portrait Session

The Signature Portrait Session is my full portrait experience. Every session is thoughtfully guided and tailored to your goals, so it begins with understanding what you need.

It includes:

Sessions last from 90 minutes to two hours. Families are photographed as a Signature Portrait Session too.

Is a Portrait Session Right for You?

A portrait session is a good fit if you:

A portrait that won’t look dated in ten yearsTimeless styling and wardrobe guidance before the session

If what you need is a photo for work, tell me when we talk, and I’ll point you to the right session.

How a Portrait Session Works

1. We start with a conversation

Every session starts with a simple conversation, so we are clear on where and how your portraits will be used. What do they need to say? Where do you want them to live?

2. Planning and wardrobe

In your Creative Planning Meeting we plan the session together. I give you personalized wardrobe guidance, and after you book you receive a preparation guide, so you arrive knowing exactly what to bring.

3. Hair and makeup

I work with some of the best hair and makeup teams in the area. Professional styling is included, with touch-ups on set throughout your session.

4. Your portrait session

I guide every expression, posture and adjustment. We work through multiple looks at an unhurried pace, and you never have to wonder what to do with your hands. If you wear glasses, wear them: I adjust your position and my lights to eliminate glare.

5. Your private reveal

The session is not finished when the camera stops. You come back for a private, in-person reveal and ordering appointment. We view your portraits on a large monitor, and together we choose the ones that best reflect how you want to be seen.

6. Your finished portraits

Every portrait you choose gets signature retouching and finishing. Each one is individually retouched and hand-finished, including natural skin refinement, color and tonal adjustments, removal of temporary distractions like blemishes, and final artistic polishing while preserving the details that make you look like you.

How to Prepare for Your Portrait Session

Your preparation guide covers the details. These are the things that matter most.

"I Am Not Photogenic"

I hear it at almost every session. Clients arrive with a version of themselves they think they are supposed to become. They worry about smiling the right way and standing the right way.

Then something changes. As the session unfolds, the performance begins to disappear. The shoulders relax. The smile becomes genuine. The eyes become present. For a moment, you stop trying to create an image and simply allow yourself to be seen.

That is the photograph I am waiting for. Being comfortable on camera is not a talent. It comes from clear direction and a relaxed pace, and both are my job.

What Makes a Portrait Timeless

Photography trends come and go. Editing styles change, and what feels modern today often looks dated tomorrow. A timeless portrait lasts because it captures something deeper than appearance. It captures character.

Clothing will eventually date an image, and a hairstyle will reveal the decade. Authenticity does not go out of style. Some of the most memorable portraits are the ones where a real laugh escaped, or someone’s eyes softened the moment they stopped trying to impress anyone. I photograph for those moments.

A Magazine-Inspired Experience

I fell in love with photography through magazines. As a teenager I devoured every editorial publication I could find, and I still believe there is something meaningful about a magazine-inspired portrait session.

Having your hair professionally styled, your makeup thoughtfully applied and wearing clothing that makes you feel confident is not about pretending to be someone else. The wardrobe, the lighting and the makeup all matter, but only because they remove distractions. What is left is you.

Portraits for Milestones and New Chapters

People book a portrait session for many reasons. Some are marking a milestone birthday or an anniversary. Some have just come through a big change and want a portrait of who they are now. Some have simply realized that they have no recent photograph of themselves that they like.

All of those are good reasons. A personal portrait does not need a business purpose. It answers a different question than “How do I look?” It answers “Who am I at this point in my life?”

The Recognition Project

The Recognition Project is a portrait experience I created for women who have spent years building a life, a family or a career, and are ready to recognize who they have become. Professional hair and makeup are included, so you feel pampered without feeling overdone. The goal is not to transform you. It is to reveal the woman who is already there.

Many women celebrate the moment with framed artwork or a handcrafted album. Read the story behind The Recognition Project.

Artwork, Albums and Prints

A portrait should not live only on a phone. The portraits people treasure are the ones they see every day: on a wall, on a desk or in an album they can hand to someone.

After your reveal, you choose how your portraits are finished. Many clients choose framed artwork or a handcrafted album designed to become part of their family’s story. Flexible payment plans are available for additional portraits and artwork.

Portraits in the Studio, or Somewhere That Matters

Most portraits are created in my studio at 111 N. Causeway Blvd., Suite 208, in Mandeville, just off the Causeway. The studio gives me full control of the light, which is what gives a portrait its editorial finish. I keep white, brown and black paper backdrops, plus pink, blue and brown textured ones, and other colors by request.

Custom on-location sessions are also available for individual portraits. If a place matters to your story, tell me about it in our first conversation.

Portraits for Mandeville, Covington, Madisonville and Abita Springs

My studio is in Mandeville, close enough that portrait clients from nearby towns can plan a session without planning a whole day around it. If you’re coming for portraits from Covington, the studio is about 15 minutes away, and the drive for Madisonville portrait clients is about the same. Abita Springs is about 20 minutes. Free parking is on site, and Suite 208 is upstairs.

Sessions are by appointment, Monday through Thursday 9 to 5, Friday 9 to 4 and Saturday 9 to 2.
